Versante Nord 2023 Terre Siciliane Rosso IGT is a vibrant expression of Nerello Mascalese sourced from old vineyards across several high-altitude contrade on Mount Etna’s northern slope. Crafted by Eduardo Torres Acosta with a minimal-intervention philosophy, the wine reflects volcanic soils, alberello training and spontaneous fermentations that preserve purity and energy.

Fermented in cement with extended maceration and aged between cement tanks and neutral old barrels, Versante Nord combines finesse and tension with the wild, mineral character typical of Etna’s lava-rich terrain. Elegant, precise and deeply territorial, it captures the authentic spirit of contemporary Etna winemaking.

Harvest:

Old alberello-trained vines over 50 years old rooted in volcanic soils on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Hand-harvested between late September and mid-October from multiple high-altitude contrade.

Vinification:

Spontaneous fermentation in cement with about 15 days of maceration on the skins. Ageing takes place primarily in cement (around 80%) with a portion in neutral old barrels for 20–28 months, preserving freshness, structure and volcanic purity.

Tasting Notes:

Bright ruby red with light transparency. The nose opens with wild red berries, pomegranate and sour cherry, followed by hints of Mediterranean herbs, ash and subtle smoky minerality. On the palate it is precise and energetic, with fine, lifted tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, savoury and saline, marked by volcanic tension and elegant restraint.

Etna - Sicily

Eduardo Torres Acosta is an independent winemaker on Mount Etna, originally from Tenerife in the Canary Islands. After formative experiences with Arianna Occhipinti and later at Passopisciaro, he settled on the northern slopes of Etna, where high-altitude vineyards between roughly 550 and 800 metres define the character of his wines.

Working mainly with old alberello vines across historic contrade such as Pirrera, Arenaria and Quota N, Eduardo follows a minimal-intervention philosophy centred on spontaneous fermentations and respect for volcanic terroir. With a small annual production of around 25,000 bottles, his wines express precision, altitude and the raw energy of Etna’s landscape.
