Rosso di Montalcino La Togata is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown in the hills of Montalcino, from vineyards more than 20 years old at around 250 metres altitude. The vines grow on clay-rich, stony soils with long sun exposure, giving the wine both concentration and freshness.
Aged for 12 months in new Slavonian oak, followed by bottle refinement, it shows aromas of red cherry, ripe plum, vanilla, mint and liquorice. The palate is structured and full-bodied, yet smooth and balanced, with firm but polished tannins.
Produced in limited quantities by a small family winery in Sant’Angelo in Colle, this is a serious and expressive Rosso di Montalcino that shows the character of Sangiovese without the longer ageing and heavier structure of Brunello.
