Vigna Barbischio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2023 by Maurizio Alongi comes from the wooded hills of Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. Made from organically grown grapes from two neighbouring vineyard plots, it expresses a secluded landscape of sandstone soils and surrounding woodland. The 2023 vintage marks its first release as Gran Selezione.
Sangiovese forms the heart of the blend, complemented by Malvasia Nera and Canaiolo. The grapes are harvested by hand, with careful selection in the vineyard. Ageing for just over a year in French oak tonneaux, followed by at least 18 months in bottle, brings together freshness, structure and finesse.
Red berries, violet and Mediterranean herbs mingle with hints of forest floor and delicate spice. The palate is lively and savoury, with finely textured tannins and a long, precise finish. An elegant red to enjoy with grilled meats, pasta with ragù and mature cheeses.
