Sankt Anna Schiava 2021 by In Der Eben is a biodynamic alpine red wine produced on the eastern slopes of the Renon plateau above Bolzano in Alto Adige. The vineyards grow between 400 and 550 meters on volcanic porphyry soils rich in stones, which give the wine its distinctive freshness and mineral character. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and oak vats, with part of the stems left in contact to enhance structure. The wine then ages in large oak casks and is bottled without fining or filtration.

Vinification:

Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and oak vats with skins and about half of the stems, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. Aged for several months in large oak casks before additional bottle aging prior to release. Bottled without clarification or filtration.

Tasting Notes:

The nose reveals aromas of wild strawberry and violet layered with notes of pink pepper and fresh herbs; on the palate the wine is light, fresh and vibrant with soft tannins and a savory mineral finish.

In Der Eben is a small family winery located on the eastern slopes of the Renon plateau above Bolzano in Alto Adige. The estate is run by Urban Plattner, who grew up on the family farm and took over the vineyard management in 2010 before officially founding the winery in 2014.

The vineyards are cultivated according to organic principles since 1990 and biodynamic methods since 2014, following the Bioland guidelines. Planted between 400 and 550 meters of altitude on volcanic porphyry soils, the vines are surrounded by forests that help create a balanced natural ecosystem.

In the cellar Plattner follows a minimal-intervention philosophy with spontaneous fermentations, long aging in used oak barrels and bottling without filtration. The wines are vibrant, expressive and deeply connected to the alpine terroir of the Renon.
