Rosso di Montalcino 2021 by Pian dell'Orino is a pure Sangiovese grown in the biodynamic vineyards of Montalcino.
Produced from carefully selected grapes from the Pian Bassolino vineyard, the wine expresses the freshness and energy typical of Rosso di Montalcino while maintaining the depth and elegance of the estate’s Brunello terroir.

The result is a vibrant and expressive Sangiovese with bright fruit, refined structure and remarkable balance. Production is extremely limited, with only 4,049 bottles produced for the 2021 vintage.

Harvest:

Vinification:

Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and lasts around 11 days, reaching temperatures of about 31°C. Malolactic fermentation follows naturally. The wine then ages for approximately 30 months in large oak casks (10–25 hl) before bottling. No filtration is applied and sulfur is kept to a minimum to preserve the vitality of the wine.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with aromas of fresh red cherries, wild berries and rose petals, followed by hints of herbs, spice and earthy notes. On the palate the wine is lively and structured, with vibrant acidity, fine tannins and a long, elegant finish that highlights both fruit purity and mineral tension.

Pian dell'Orino is a small biodynamic estate located in the hills of Montalcino, in southern Tuscany. Founded by Jan Erbach and Caroline Pobitzer, the winery focuses exclusively on Sangiovese and cultivates its vineyards according to organic and biodynamic principles.

The estate covers about 11.5 hectares, including vineyards, olive groves, gardens and forest, creating a diverse natural ecosystem that supports biodiversity and vine health. All vineyard work and harvesting are done by hand, and the wines ferment with indigenous yeasts before aging in large oak casks.

With a strong focus on terroir and minimal intervention in the cellar, Pian dell'Orino produces small quantities of expressive wines that reflect the character of Montalcino and the uniqueness of each vintage.
