Valtellina
Carved into the steep Alpine slopes of northern Lombardy near the Swiss border, Valtellina is one of Italy's most dramatic and heroic wine regions. Nebbiolo — locally known as Chiavennasca — is grown on narrow terraces of crumbling granite at altitudes of up to 800 meters, farmed almost entirely by hand in conditions that demand extraordinary dedication. The result is wines of remarkable elegance, mineral precision and aging potential — lighter in color than Barolo but no less complex, expressing a uniquely alpine character that sets Valtellina apart as one of Italy's most distinctive and underrated wine territories.
